mommy, the potty, and Avery

Hokay, we (simpson household) have been poking around potty time for ooohhh about six months. I know they (the evil parenting overlords) say- every child is different, they go at their own pace, yadadadadada.
I get it.
However, when it's your kid...you want a winner.
Straight to the point.
One day.
No diapers.
No turning back.
So, if you're one of those parents who said Kablam and it was done, here's your cookie. My sweet angel faced daughter is stubborn. as. hell. This is our awesome adventure that is potty training.

I did good. I looked up information, read books, asked parents. The whole shabang. The signs were THERE.
Dry after nap, knew when she was ahem going, knew what the potty was all about...it was all adding up to NO MORE DIAPERS. :) Who wouldn't jump like a girl in Neimans?! Well, this chick was on it. Avery...not so much. She was not going to sit on that potty for anything. We tried it all. We tried the song and dance. We tried stickers. We even broke and tried an assortment of the devil that is candy. (Don't forget; I'm a mean mom.)
Nothing worked.
So, I backed off the potty training...it was becoming a temper tantrum from Problem Child haha. Then, the most amazing thing miraculously happened. She sat down one day and just started going...
No jokes here kids. She just..well..went. And, SHE HASN'T STOPPED. We slapped those big girl panties on SO FAST. As of Thursday, Avery has not worn a diaper during the day.
Let's not get TOO excited. She stills wears a pull up at nap and for now a diaper at night. And, we have yet to master...the two :|
We'll save that for this week.
Don't give up moms and dads. Even the most stubborn sweet toddler will learn to use the potty. I promise.

well hello world

It's been some time since we our last chat. The Simpson clan is operating as usual...with a few minor changes. Bennett and I are now both official English pros. I start graduate school soon...eek! And I thought I was done.

Avery has not stopped growing...I know...you're all shocked. It's ok though; I've started putting weights on her ponytail. We'll see what physical effects we can muster.

Let's get down to brass tacks. My inspiration for my blog rebirth is simple; I have a lot on my mind. I know. I know. My FIRST inspiration to blog was also simple; I love bragging about my awesome family. :) However, the task at hand is pressing, and I don't have much time before my pillow begins screaming in loneliness.

Ladies and gentlemen, I woke up an adult the other day.
Talk about a shocker.
I remember the day I turned sixteen and failed my driving test. Now, let's remember that eight years ago there were no driving test REQUIREMENT. My parents were devout "cruel and unusual punishment" followers.
Anyhow, I remember childhood so vividly; I was genuinely shocked and mystified by my transformation. I'm a cookie baking, playdate loving, hair braiding, nail painting, NEWS WATCHING mother. A mother of one husband, one daughter, and five feline children.
And guess who loves it? - this guy
This newly found adult vows to blog....more.

Here's a quick peak of mi vida in the last oohhh year :)
enjoy...

oh goodness...our weekend was eventful....very eventful. Avery went to the Grace for the first time with her gammy and pops. Lots of fun was had!! Pops quickly realized Avery can be very intimidating to other children..something I've been telling people this WHOLE TIME!! Saturday was grandparents' night and Avery spent the majority of an hour running from her room to gammy's room yelling at her uncle Geoff...well she says geff with a hard guh sound haha.
Sunday brought the Trammell bbq, puddles, and fireworks! Avery found every puddle she could and splashed splashed splashed!!! All in all the weekend was awesome. I got some me time, Avery time, and most of all couple time. Bennett and I have been married for just over 1 month :) So far this summer has been awesome, but it's halfway over uggghhh. Off to work out!!! Hasta luego!!!!!!

now or never

I'm blogging! I'm blogging! Oh gosh now I have to think of something to say. I suppose it's always best to start from the beginning. One year ago tomorrow Bennett and I got engaged. Ten months flew by and now we are official. Today started out normally...Avery woke up at 8:30 on the nose. Breakfast consisted of eggs on the floor, Snap hurriedly enjoying his good fortune, and Elmo singing in the background. The usual scene at the Simpson house. But..oh there is always a but...i got dishes done before 9 and the catbox changed...ugh. After a whirlwind of shoes and clothes, the three of us are dressed..yay out before 11!! The next thirty minutes consisted of trecking from willis to industrial and then back to pioneer. Finally, we found what we were looking for and our lovely wait at the Avis Lube began. Thankfully, there is a separate room for "children". I never understood why the call it a "playroom". I mean seriously; just put a sign on the door that says: parents, please bring your child into our separate (but equal haha) room...your child will probably be annoying. Well, my sweet bundle of meat is no exception to the rule..she very politely stared at a man until he was visibly uncomfortable; she talked to anyone who would listen, captured the attention of all 7 people in the waiting room, and still managed a trip with daddy outside..for "exploring". Oh the life of an 18 month old. I found myself in trouble this week. Avery is most definitely infatuated with the male population. She has eyelash batting down and the blue eyes are deadly i promise. Professional flirt but we love it. I'm anxious to see what this child has in store for us. So far it's been a ball. Until next time. Adios!
